Our company’s roots go back to 1675. What began as a family winery in Burg Layen is now an international group of companies. Selling high-quality wines, sparkling wines, champagnes, spirits and juices to end consumers is the core business of Pieroth Wein GmbH and its subsidiaries. We are among the pioneers in direct sales in Germany and were also pioneers in the area of internationalization.

1675

First documented mention of the Pieroth family as farmers and winegrowers.

1704

An ancestor is mentioned for the first time as the owner of vineyards near Burg Layen.

1870

The generation around Nicolaus Pieroth acquires more and more vineyards, thus establishing the focus on viticulture.

1906

Ferdinand Pieroth, later the namesake of the winery, further expands the business.

1926

Philip Ferdinand Pieroth bottles wine for the first time in the history of the house (instead of selling it by the barrel as before). From then on, the wine is also shipped – directly from the producer to the wine drinker. The first delivery from the House of Pieroth goes to Duisburg.

1953

Brothers Elmar and Kuno Pieroth lay the foundation for international wine sales with the idea of personal and non-binding wine tastings at the customer's home.

1960

Pieroth expands: the first foreign branch opens in Great Britain.

1976

Rediscovery of an old glass tradition and the birth of the most famous brand "Pieroth Blue", which has since been inseparably linked with the royal blue bottle.

2014

The family winery in Burg Layen now cultivates 25 hectares.

2015

In the meantime, the owning family is involved in the supervisory board and thus helps to shape the development of the company.

2018

The Pieroth corporate brand is brought back into stronger focus. In Germany and worldwide, it stands for exciting wine moments and enjoyment.

2020

345 years of Pieroth

2024

New holding company takes over Pieroth Wein GmbH / the family remains the majority shareholder. Shareholders are Maria Gleichmann-Pieroth (daughter of Kuno Pieroth), Ferdinand Pieroth Jr. and Ivan Manelli (both grandsons of Elmar Pieroth) as well as the managing directors Dr. Sebastian Potyka and Mario Disch.

2025

We look back proudly on 350 years of Pieroth on the Nahe river – this is where we are at home!
